Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Easy Indian Masala Prawns Curry
Ingredients:
For the Curry:
- 1 lb (450g) prawns or shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or coconut oil)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped or pureed
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit (optional, adjust spice to taste)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- ½ cup coconut milk or water (optional for a thinner curry)
- Salt to taste
For Garnish:
- Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
- Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Prawns:
- In a bowl, mix the prawns with ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon red chili powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Set aside for 10-15 minutes while preparing the curry base.
2. Prepare the Curry Base:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 30 seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown (about 5-6 minutes).
- Stir in the garlic, ginger, and green chilies, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the tomatoes and cook until the mixture turns soft and oil starts to separate (about 7-10 minutes).
3. Add Spices:
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes to enhance the flavors.
4. Cook the Prawns:
- Add the marinated prawns to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If using, pour in the coconut milk or water and simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the prawns are fully cooked and the curry thickens slightly.
5. Finish and Serve:
- Stir in garam masala and cook for 1 more minute.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness.

Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or paratha for a comforting and flavorful meal.
